Mines! No, Seriously. MINES!

What happens when a unit has to go through a minefield? In a perfect world, they’d wait for Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to clear it. In reality, the one EOD guy in the Battalion teaches hundreds of suddenly very attentive grunts how to poke around in the dirt with pointy things and hope nothing goes boom.

That’s more preparation than veterans get for the challenges of transitioning out of the service. That process can be just as deadly as a field of bouncing betty’s but veterans aren’t given a pointy stick to clear their path. Hell, most of us don’t know the minefield even exists, let alone a pathway through it.

For years I’ve felt like the  grunt that learns he’d been in a minefield only after reaching the other side. It wasn’t until I finally understood what had come home with me from Iraq that I realized the danger I’d been in. Now I have a duty to share my lucky footprints with the rest of the platoon.

So, I’m announcing a free giveaway of pointy sticks and minefield maps here: Continuing Actions: A Warrior’s Guide to Coming Home. Read on for details.

Veterans Day 2018 is coming soon. I don’t know about you, but I get more rude texts from long-lost brothers and sisters that day than any other. Reconnecting with them is my favorite part about Veterans Day and I think most veterans feel the same.

That’s why I’m announcing this two-stage book giveaway nearly two months before Veterans Day–to give you time to read it.

First free period: The e-book version of Continuing Actions will be free September 12, 13, 14, and 15, 2018. Just go to Amazon and download it for free.

Then read it. It doesn’t suck, I promise, but don’t take my word for it:

“It is really good, one of the best things I’ve read about coming home from war.” Tom Ricks, Pulitzer Prize winner/Bestselling Author of Fiasco, The Generals, Churchill and Orwell, among others.

Continuing Actions carries a credible message of hope to veterans laboring forward under a burden of psychological and moral injury. . .” From the foreword of Continuing Actions written by Dr. Jonathan Shay, Clinical Psychologist/Bestselling Author of Achilles in Vietnam and Odysseus in America.

“That was nice, but you sure do use the word “fuck” a lot.” Mom, Worlds Best Mom 1974–

etc.

Second free period: November 9, 10, 11, 12, 2018.

Now, when you start getting those Veterans Day texts from old friends that instantly transport you back in time, consider recommending they read Continuing Actions as well. This is the essence of what I describe in the book as “Buddy-Aid” and, besides, it’ll be free.

You see, even if you have already stumbled through the minefield of coming home unscathed, many of your brothers and sisters have not. They may be halfway through, or just on the edge, or might not even know there is a minefield there at all.

But you do. Now you can help them.

So shout it out:  “Mines! No, seriously. MINES!”

And use Continuing Actions to help them see and navigate the buried threats—after disparaging their parentage and highlighting their general worthlessness as a human being, that is.

Keep taking care of each other,
Dan

ps: Please share via social media and post any comments about Continuing Actions in the amazon reviews–thanks!

Dan Sheehan leads the way in his understanding of the transitional challenges and territory for those serving. Having read both his books and spoken to him, I have no doubt that his is a voice that needs to be heard and his books need to be read . Thanks Dan for your passion and wisdom based on being in the territory. Barry Zworestine

Thank you for your kind words, Barry. It’s heartening to have your support as both a mental health professional with a long career in Veterans Affairs and as a fellow veteran.
      Semper Fidelis,
      Dan
